History of the L.F. Kusay Insurance Agency

Back in 1947, my father, Lou Kusay, Sr., had the vision to create a company that focused on multiple facets of the financial services industry.  Lou, Sr. started an Accounting and Income Tax business and then added in the next few years Real Estate, Investments, and Insurance.

L.F. Kusay Co., Inc. was the initial insurance agency started in 1956.  The agency was a family business insuring homes, autos, businesses and farms. For 45 years, the office was located one block north of 159th Street on Halsted Street in Harvey. Today, the majority of business continues in Homer Glen under the direction of Michael Kusay, CFP the youngest son.  Housed within the office is the insurance agency now known as L.F. Kusay Insurance, LLC and the First Equine Insurance Group founded by Lou Kusay, Jr., CIC, AFIS.

Though names, locations, and people have changed over the past 70 years - the basic values of honesty, trustworthy, dependability, and treating people like you would want to be treated have not changed. These values have been instilled deeply in both Lou Kusay, Jr., CIC, AFIS and Michael Kusay, CFP.

For over 70 years, thousands of clients, and their children, their grandchildren, and now their great grandchildren depend and rely on the Kusay family to provide financial services to protect their homes, autos, businesses, farms, and their money. These responsibilities and duties are not taken lightly. You can be assured when you're working with the Kusay family, they've got your back.

About Lou Kusay, Jr., CIC, AFIS

Lou has been licensed since 1981 and has been running the agency since 1989. A firm believer in education, dedication to his industry, and the desire to be the best for his clients spurred Lou to going above and beyond the majority of agents in the business.

Besides 38 years of insurance experience, Lou also holds the AFIS designation and the CIC designation. Designations in the insurance industry are marks of distinction that represent a commitment to professional excellence, knowledge, and leadership within the industry.

AFIS stands for Agribusiness and Farm Insurance Specialist. The AFIS designation, along with the continuing education, provides an agent with the opportunity to gain specialized knowledge in agribusiness and farm insurance and risk management. To obtain the designation, participants are required to complete five specialized courses on agribusiness and farm insurance and risk management. To maintain the AFIS designation, you must complete 6 hours of continuing education every year plus every third year attend a 2-day agribusiness conference.

The Certified Insurance Counselor, or CIC, program is nationally recognized and highly respected in the insurance industry and challenges an agent to take their knowledge and expertise to a higher level. The CIC designation is the undisputed professional credential for insurance agents and signifies that an individual has attained comprehensive knowledge in the industry.  Obtaining the CIC designation is no easy accomplishment. Participants must attend five rigorous 20-hour courses spread over two-and-a-half days. At the end of the third day, a 2-hour written essay exam is issued and you must pass all five courses and exams to be awarded the CIC designation. Less than 30% of licensed insurance agents in the country have this prestigious designation.
